CATHY & MARCY team up with CHILDREN'S CHORUS OF WASHINGTON and special guests, Kim & Reggie Harris for THE GREAT AMERICAN FOLK SONG. (Dorian Sono Luminus Recordings)

In the winter of 2010, Cathy & Marcy embarked on a new adventure. They created and scored arrangements of American Folksongs for THE CHILDREN'S CHORUS OF WASHINGTON. Artistic director, Joan Gregoryk, has a love of traditional folk music and was interested in finding ways of bringing more arrangements of the music into the choral genre for children in schools, training choirs and choral groups. Cathy & Marcy were the a stellar match with their expertise in the field, as well as their pedigree of producing and recording GRAMMY winning and nominated recordings.

The collaboration began in January 2010 with meetings between Ms. Gregoryk, Cathy & Marcy, and Kim & Reggie Harris. The Harris team was invited to bring several songs from the African American tradition in to the project. The group brainstormed lists of favorite songs and diverse musical styles. Then, Cathy & Marcy and Kim & Reggie worked on arrangements.

The result is delightful, and inspiring to choral directors and young singers. From Stephen Foster's "Oh, Susanna" accompanied on banjo, fiddle, guitar and bass, to the Cajun "Allons Dancé Colinda", to the civil rights anthem "Ain't You got a Right” to “The Tree of Life" and Ola Belle Reed's bluegrass classic, "High on a Mountain", THE GREAT AMERICAN FOLK SONG brings old songs in to a new context. Many of the arrangements are soon to be published, but in the meantime, they are available by contacting This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. THE CD follows Cathy & Marcy's groundbreaking "BANJO TO BEATBOX" collaboration with Hip-Hop stylist, Christylez Bacon.
